Investors

Hightown First and Nursery School is an accredited 'Investor in People', as well as an 'Investor in Pupils'.

Investor in People
The school was awarded Investor in People status in 2001, and has successfully retained it ever since. The award came as a result of a detailed assessment of the school's ability to train and develop the school's staff to ensure that they can continue to meet the needs of the pupils and other stakeholders.

The assessment involved a detailed analysis against 10 key criteria to assess the school's overall commitment to meeting its immediate objectives, whilst also developing the skills of individuals to meet new challenges in the future. The assessors spoke with staff at all levels to ensure that not only were plans in place, but they were effectively being implemented.

Investor in Pupils
This award was made in March 2005 by the Learning Skills Council, whose report was extremely complimentary about the school, with a number of areas singled out for particular praise.

Investors in Pupils recognises the school's ability to influence and develop areas such as behaviour, learning, attendance, attitude, classroom management and organisation and induction.

As part of the award, pupils create 'target boards', both as individuals and groups, to demonstrate their targets. A selection of these boards can be seen below:
